Lester Hayes was an integral piece of the “Just win, baby” Raiders. Not only was Hayes known for helping the Raiders secure two Super Bowl titles but he was notorious for his use of Stickum. He wouldn’t just put it on his hands, he’d practically bath in the stuff. Lester would rub it on his hands, wrists and forearms. And a little more on his jersey just because. That is until the 1980 season began and the NFL outlawed the use of Stickum — specifically citing Lester Hayes as a driving force behind the rule change. Lester Hayes says that after Stickum was banned in football he became “a mere mortal”.
